Inspired by the National Freedom Movement of Mahatma Gandhi in 1942 Bhartiya Sewa Sadan was founded by late Mataji Smt. Radhadeviji Goenka. Initially it was started in small room with 7 children of her own family.
Recitation of Vande Mataram was a part of daily prayer. Mataji was interested in women education since there was no provision for education of women in the Vidarbha Region. Her dream was materialized and in 1965 foundation stone of Smt. Radhadevi Goenka Women’s College was laid down by her. Her husband Late Seth Shri Kisanlalji Goenka donated a sum of Rs. 2 lakh and Pandit Late Shri Ravishankarji Shukla former Chief Minister of C.P.& Berar donated a land of 23 acre for the cause of women’s education.
Initially the college had only Arts faculty and Home Science stream was introduced in 1979 and Commerce stream in 1984. The college is located near Government Milk Scheme on N.H.6 Amravati Road Akola, Maharashtra State.
